Committees

SEAConn has numerous committees that contribute to the betterment of the structural engineering profession in the State of Connecticut. These committees carry out their duties as detailed below.

Sustainability Committee

Chairperson: Jamie Littlefield

Young Members Committee

Chairperson:

The SEAConn Young Members Group supports recent structural engineering graduates with their transition between school and the workplace, as well as local young Engineers in Training (EITs) and newly-licensed Professional Engineers (PEs) who currently practice structural engineering or are interested in learning more about the structural industry.

This group provides a space for young engineers to network and exchange technical information and to develop leadership and management skills by being part of the team.

The Young Members Group can provide mutual benefits for local firms as well as young engineers, so company leaders are asked to encourage their firms' young engineers to become actively involved.

Building Code Advisory Committee

Chairperson: Tom DiBlasi

The building code advisory committee is charged with reviewing the most recent editions of the International Building Code and International Residential Codes and commenting on proposed changes specifically for the Connecticut State Building Code ammendments  with respect to structural engineering and special inspections.

Emergency Response Group Committee

Chairperson:

After disasters, natural or otherwise, structural engineers are often needed to assist government agencies. In order to respond to this need, the National Council of Structural Engineers Association (NCSEA) formed the Structural Engineering Emergency Response (SEER) Committee to guide local SEAs in the organization of their engineering communities into functioning SEER groups capable of providing rapid structural evaluations to local emergency management authorities (EMAs). The ERG Committee works with other engineering and public organizations to create a structural engineering emergency response plan for the state of Connecticut.
